Three men said be part of a motorcycle gang involved in midnight robberies and attacks on pedestrians in Kumasi have been arrested by the police.
The suspects, Sharif Mahmud, 23, Abdallah Karim, 25, and James Alena, 25, were arrested at Suame in Kumasi at about 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the police said the suspects were intercepted by a police team during an operation in the area.
The suspected gang had been engaging in illegal motorcycle racing on public roads at night and attacking unsuspecting pedestrians, causing fear and insecurity among residents.
The Ashanti Regional Command in the statement said it had been monitoring the activities and movements of the group before the operation, which led to the arrest of the three suspects.
The suspects have since been granted police inquiry bail and are expected to appear before court after investigations have been completed.
The statement explained that their arraignment had been delayed by the ongoing strike by the Judicial Service Association of Ghana (JUSAG).
It said investigations were continuing, with the police working to identify and arrest other suspected members of the group who were still at large.
The Command appealed to members of the public to provide credible information to assist the police in their investigations and efforts to arrest the remaining suspects
