Martha Osei, a resident of Manso Afranso in the Amansie East District, who has been on the radar of the police for a while, was arrested at noon on Sunday, March 27, 2016, at Bekwai Roundabout in Kumasi having in her possession 499 wrappers of powdered whitish substances suspected to be cocaine.

The street value of the substance is estimated to be around GH¢5,000.

Confirmation

Confirming the arrest to the Daily Graphic, the Head of the Ashanti Regional DLEU, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Jeremiah Alale, said the police had been trailing the suspect for well over four months and last Sunday, around noon, the police had information that she had allegedly gone to  take her supply and was returning to her base.

He said the police trailed the Benz bus with registration number AW250-10 and intercepted it around Bekwai Roundabout.

Mr Alale said when the bag of the suspect was searched, “We found 499 foil wrappers of whitish substance suspected to be cocaine.”

He said the suspect was in police custody assisting in investigations and added that the police wanted to know her source of supply but “she is not forthcoming with that information.”

Appeal

Mr Alale appealed to the public to assist the police in combating crimes in society by assisting with information on the activities of criminals.

He said the drug menace was directly linked to violent crimes as most armed robbers used one narcotic drug or another.

“Most drug addicts have been found to be economically unproductive and have to resort to crimes to sustain their addiction,” he said.

He thus called on all to help in the fight against narcotic drugs by providing the police with information on activities of drug dealers.
