Persons with fake biometric data arrested

Another suspect, with the pseudo-name Lucy Fofie, is also in the grips of the Ministries Police Station for allegedly faking social security identity (ID) cards, voter ID cards and appointment letters to enable her to register.

The coordinator said the biometric team had identified certain districts as notorious for using fictitious documentation to register and would cause the arrest of any recalcitrant staff from those hotspots.

“We were able to detect these illegal acts because of the vigilance of our registration staff who have been trained for this second round validation exercise on biometric technology and how to detect documents that have been doctored,” Mr Gyamfi said.

Again, the biometric registration taskforce in the coming days will start a second phase exercise to validate the names of all workers on government payroll, who were registered during the first phase.

The coordinator explained that the second round exercise would enable the team to weed out other names that may have slipped onto the payroll.

Mr Gyamfi gave an assurance that although some unscrupulous persons may have managed to slip into the register in the first phase, the second one would entirely eliminate such names and help the government to save substantial funds that were lost to illegalities that were often carried out with the connivance of public sector workers.

The Daily Graphic has learnt that the Biometric registration team has made significant savings and will continue to deliver to ensure more funds into the national coffers.  The second phase exercise is expected to end within the year.
