A Metro Mass bus collided with a Nissan pickup Wednesday at near Adukrom in the Okere District in the Eastern Region.

All the 66 passengers on board the Metro Mass Bus which was heading from Kumasi to Akosombo had no injury while the two occupants of the Nissan pickup (a driver and an assistant) are in a critical condition at the Koforidua Central Government Hospital. The pickup was loaded with cigarettes and drinks.

A witness, Mr Evans Hamenu, the Okere District Director of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) who was at the scene when the accident occurred told Graphic Online that, at exactly 3:30 pm when he got to the accident scene, it was raining heavily around the area and drivers who were conscious of the rain drove carefully.

He said the pickup driver was however over speeding when he was descending a small hill trying to overtake a Sprinter bus which was ahead of him.

Mr Hamenu said the Metro Mass driver was on his lane and tried to avoid the collision, however, the pickup veered into the lane of the Metro Mass Bus and collided with it.

The driver of the Metro Mass, Edward Amoafo when contacted by the Daily Graphic was so confused that he could not control his emotion. He asked: “It is raining heavily and where are you going by overtaking a car ahead of you”.

All the 66 passengers in the Metro Mass Bus collected their luggage and joined different cars to their destination.

The situation according to the witness caused vehicular traffic for about 50 minutes until the road was cleared.

A Police Officer from Adukrom Police Station, Constable Philomina Gabrah who was at the scene conveyed all the cigarette products and drinks in the pickup to the Adukrom Police Station for safekeeping.
