Owner of seized cables criticises action of National Security
Mr Richard Sackey, the owner of some high voltage cables seized by National Security Operatives at the Takoradi Port in November, 2017, has expressed disappointment about the action of the security operatives.

In a letter signed by his lawyers and addressed to the Western Regional Security Coordinator, he said his company, Sackey Richard Enterprise, was registered in accordance with required regulations and also the cables that were seized “was genuinely acquired.’’
His legal team has, therefore, threatened to initiate legal proceedings to seek for justice for their client.
“We are monitoring the situation and at the appropriate time, we shall invoke the court’s powers to correct the wrong and harm that has been done to our client and the resultant losses occasioned thereby,’’ the letter said.

Container seized
On November 22, 2017, the Daily Graphic, published a story about the seizure of some cables which were in a 20 footer container through the combined efforts of a joint national security and the Takoradi Port security operatives.
The cables, were supposedly ready for shipment to Italy.
In the story, sources alleged that the document which supposedly gave Sackey Richard Enterprise the permission to export the cables had expired.
The sources also claimed that officials of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) had been invited to inspect the cables and identify the cables which may belong to them.

“Unlawful seizure’’
But in the letter, lawyers for Mr Sackey described the seizure as “unlawful”, because the cables “were genuinely acquired and we have documents to evidence same and which is in our possession.’’
To buttress their claim, Mr Sackey’s legal team pointed out that no state agency “has come up to claim ownership of the cables.’’
“We are further informed that the ship destined to convey the container has since left and the container is still lying ideal at the port,’’ it said.
