Osabarima Kwesi Atta still paramount chief

Kingmakers and the Supi Council of the Oguaa Traditional Area have declared that Osabarima Kwesi Atta, the Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area in the Central Region, remains the paramount chief of the area in spite of the High Court ruling that his name should be expunged from the register of the National House of Chiefs.

Status quo

They contended that per the custom of the land, the paramount chief had not been destooled customarily and would continue to perform his duties as the paramount chief of the area.

At a news conference to react to the ruling by the Cape Coast High Court, the Spokesperson for the group, Supi Yalley, said the Paramount Chief of the Oguaa State, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, had not been destooled following the High Court ruling against him.

“Osabarima Kwesi Atta II has not been destooled. He continues to be the paramount chief of the Oguaa State,” he stressed.

Destoolment

He explained that no destoolment process had been initiated and carried out in accordance with Section 40 of the Chieftaincy Act 2008, saying: “We members of the Supi Council and kingmakers of Cape Coast, the only party with the authority to carry out any such destoolment of the omanhe, would like to make it clear to the public that Osabarima Kwesi Atta II has not been destooled.”

Supi Yalley further said the High Court ruling asking the National House of Chiefs to delete the chief’s name from the national register of chiefs would not affect the legitimacy of the paramount chief.

He explained that the Osabarima Kwesi Atta had filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal for a stay of execution of the ruling of the High Court.
