One dead, several others displaced by floods in Kumasi (photos)
A heavy downpour in some parts of the Kumasi Metropolis and Asokore-Mampong Municipality Saturday night claimed one life and destroyed property.

Those living along the Aboabo drain were trapped in their houses for well over 12 hours.
Areas affected in the Kumasi Metropolis were the usual flood prone communities such as Dichemso, Airport Roundabout, Anloga among others while in Asokore-Mampong the parts that were not spared by the floods was those around the Aboabo Stream.
The body of a man believed to be in his 50s, was found around Dr Mensah close to Kejetia after the waters had receded.
According to eye witnesses, the dead man hailed from the northern part of the country and was in Kumasi to visit a sick relative.
He fell into a drain, probably because he was not conversant with the terrain, especially when the lights were off.
At Asokore Mampong, most buildings cited close to the Aboabo Stream were submerged in the stream.
Those whose houses were submerged in the water had to either abandon their houses to safety, while those who are living in storey-buildings sought refuge in the top floors where they were trapped for hours.
Fire personnel were later seen draining flooded houses off the water, while assisting others to reach dry lands for safety, especially those whose buildings were submerged.
Some youth in the Asokore-Mampong areas, whose houses and other property were affected by the floods took to the streets and demonstrated against what they described as inaction on the part of authorities to address the perennial flooding.
They blocked the main road, burnt vehicles tyres and prevented vehicular movement.
It took the police and some fire service personnel about an hour to clear them from the road and allow traffic to flow.
