Odotobri Rural Bank gives scholarship to 145 students

The odotobri Rural Bank Limited at Jacobu in the Amansie Central District in the Ashanti Region has offered  scholarship  to 145    brilliant, needy  students to the tune of GH¢47,500

The selected beneficiaries were 53 students from  senior high schools, and 92  students from tertiary institutions.

For the past 11 years, the bank has consistently awarded bursaries to brilliant, needy students in the communities in which it operates. This year, the bank received 201 applications out of which 145 were considered after a thorough vetting by the scholarship committee.

Addressing beneficiaries of the scheme, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bank, Mr Ben Asamoah Boateng, underscored the  main reasons behind the decision of the bank to give such support to students.

According to him, the package and the criteria for selection of the award this year was unprecedented because it is the highest since its inception.

He said the bank was committed to supporting academic excellence which he mentioned as the basic key to development in any society.

The Board chairman further advised parents whose children have benefitted from the scheme to exhibit extreme sense of   responsibility as their ultimate contribution towards their children’s academic development.

A level 100 student of the University of Cape Coast, Master Kingsford Ogoe, who is a beneficiary of this year’s package, on behalf of the other beneficiaries, thanked the board and management of the bank for the initiative.

In another development, the bank has donated items worth GH¢17,740 to five public educational institutions.

They include the SDA Senior High School at Bekwai which received 100 bags of cement worth  GH¢3,500, the Amansie Central District Education Directorate had one computer and a printer, SIMMS Senior High Schools received sports kits and Kumasi Senior High & Technical School received two sets of computers. The bank also donated a computer and a printer to the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly.

The CEO of the Bank, Mr Siaka Ahmed Baaba, who made the presentation on behalf of the directors, advised the beneficiaries to adopt a good maintenance culture and use the items solely for the intended purpose.
