Obuasi police assure public of safety
The Obuasi Divisional Police Command has assured residents in the Obuasi Municipality and its surrounding communities of adequate security and protection in spite of the recent robberies in the area.

The Divisional Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Mr Berchie Dwomfuor, who gave the assurance in an interview, said the area was safe and business activities were going on smoothly.
Following recent attacks on some residents by armed robbers in the municipality, some residents complained of insecurity in the area and challenged the police to reinvigorate their act at clampdown on crime in the area.
The police in Obuasi recently arrested 12 suspected robbers who were alleged to be terrorising the residents.
The residents have attributed the increase in robbery cases to the clamp down on illegal miners in the metropolis.
The suspects, who were arrested early in September, were identified as Kwaku Akpaloo, Isaac Mensah, Kofi Abanga, Kwame Nyame and Yusif Musah.
The rest were Stephen Nyamele, Kwame Isaac, Suraj, Iddrisu Alhassan, Jamal Yakubu and Gordon Sasu.
A number of items including a Nissan Rogue saloon car, an Infinity, a BMW five series and an Opel Astra, were retrieved from the suspects after their arrest
He added that the police were on their feet to protect lives and property and give utmost security to all as their duty demanded.
According to Mr Dwomfour, although there had been cases of armed robbery, stealing, snatching of vehicles, among other criminal activities in the municipality, the police did embark on day and night patrols to track down the criminals.
The regular patrols by the police make the residents feel secure and move about freely, which in turn promotes development.
Mr Dwomfour asked the public to volunteer any information relevant to the tracking down of criminals to the police for them to expedite action.
He said the police had collaborated with the Obuasi Municipal Assembly to form community watchdog committees in every electoral area with the view to assisting the police, especially in the night.
Mr Dwomfour explained that the formation of the community watchdogs would help to beef up security and reduce theft and other criminal activities in the municipality.
He, however, urged the public to be security-conscious by reporting to the police the movement of persons they suspected to be of questionable character.
