National Service releases postings for 18,617 nurses, midwives 2026/2027 service year

The National Service Authority (NSA) has released postings for 18,617 eligible nurses and midwives for the 2026/2027 national service year.

The personnel are required to undertake a regional validation exercise from June 22 to July 10, 2026, before reporting for national service on July 1, 2026.

The postings, released on Monday, June 22, 2026, are for candidates who passed the August and September 2025 Nursing and Midwifery Council licensure examination, also known as the major season examination.

A statement signed by the Director-General of the NSA, Mrs Ruth Dela Seddoh, directed all eligible personnel to visit the Authority's website to check their places of posting and complete the regional validation process within the stipulated period.

"The regional validation exercise starts today, June 22, 2026, and ends on Friday, July 10, 2026," the statement said.

The statement also reminded employers and prospective national service personnel of their obligations under the National Service Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1119).

It explained that employers are prohibited from employing persons who are required to undertake national service but have not done so, unless they are exempt under Section 36 of the Act.

It added that employers are required to verify whether prospective employees are liable to undertake national service and whether they have completed the programme or hold a valid exemption certificate before offering them employment.

According to the statement, employers who fail to comply with the law are liable to an administrative penalty of 5,000 penalty units.

The statement further said persons who obtain employment without undertaking national service may be directed by the Board to complete the programme in a field determined by the Authority.

It added that the Registrar of Companies may refuse to register the company, partnership or business name of a person who is required to undertake national service but has not done so, unless the person is exempt under the law.

Mrs Seddoh urged all eligible nurses and midwives to complete the validation process within the stated period to facilitate their deployment for the 2026/2027 national service year.
