Nsein honours Prez Mahama with a durbar

President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated that the second term of his presidency will focus on putting money in the pockets of the people, adding that he will accomplish his work as President in 2020.

In what appeared to be an expression of his confidence in winning the 2016 elections, the President said, "From 2017 to 2020, my government will focus on livelihoods and income generation."

He said this at a durbar organised in his honour at Nsein in the Nzema East District yesterday as part of his “Accounting to the People” tour of the Western Region.

The durbar of the chiefs and the people of the area was well attended.

Economic infrastructure

President Mahama said the first term of his administration had focused on economic infrastructure but the second term would concentrate on how to put money in the pockets of the people.

"We've done a lot and we need to see how to put money in the pockets of the people in my second term," he said to applause from the gathering.

Infrastructure

Focusing his attention on infrastructure development, the President said a lot had been done with regard to roads, electricity, education, health and other sectors and mentioned, for instance, that in the Western Region, 800 kilometres of roads were undergoing rehabilitation.

He, however, said there was more to be done and promised that by 2020 many more roads would have been covered.

Fair share

The Paramount Chief of the Nsein Traditional Area, Awulae Agyenfi Kwame, said Nzemas had received their fair share of the national cake under President Mahama and would always be grateful to him.

He said Nzema had benefitted from numerous development projects to better the lives of the people, adding that in spite of the impressive development record of the Mahama administration in Nzema, there was some more work left to be done.

President Mahama also inspected ongoing road works at Axim.

Fisher folk

Last Tuesday evening, the President met representatives of the fishing community in the Western Region in Takoradi, during which he briefed them on what the government was doing to boost the fishing industry.

He said the government had kept faith with the people in the industry.

While thanking the President for what had been done so far, the fisher folk expressed concern over the cost of outboard motors that were imported by the government for distribution to them and appealed to him to do something about that.
