Novel on elections Launched in Accra

He noted that the author touched on issues like youth unemployment, delays in the judiciary system, the media and nepotism that characterise African democratic governance.

“This book is written by a Ghanaian, for Ghanaians. It is thought provoking and relevant to our time,” Dr Ansah-Koi added.

Speaking at the launch, Dr Alfred B Cudjoe, author of the novel and a lecturer based in the United Kingdom, stated that the aim of the book was to generate debate on issues on democratic governance in developing countries.

“Some may even observe that it is a subject that the entire world has to be concerned about. Since one of the ways to let democracy work is to debate issues,” he said.

According to him, the novel was not intended to pass judgment over any politician or individual, especially in Ghana where politicians had tried to satisfy the needs of the electorate in spite of numerous challenges.

“It can even be said that sometimes the electorate make politicians what they are. People should read this book and let us debate. It’s good for democracy”, he added.

The chairman of the occasion, Dr Gordon Adika, Head of the Language Centre, University of Ghana, Legon, was happy with the successful way the novel was launched. He praised the reviewer, Dr Ansah-Koi, for situating the novel in the right theoretical and political context. — GNA
