The donation to the beneficiary communities, Degbordzi, Ashifla and Kyekyewere, which are all in the Domeabra-Obom Constituency, is to ease acute water challenges being faced by people in the communities.

Father Sam Charities, which is in memory of Reverend Father Samuel Akuamoah, was founded by his wife, Grace Akuamoah, and their son, Jonathan Akuamoah, as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Founder of TEAM CSR Ghana.

The three boreholes donated to the three communities were part of 25 boreholes done and presented by Father Sam Charities which were facilitated by TEAM CSR as part of its Water for Life Initiative.

The TEAM CSR Ghana Water for Life Initiative has in total constructed more than 120 boreholes in 120 communities and provided access to safe drinking water to more than 200,000 Ghanaians at a cost of over $600,000.

TEAM CSR Ghana works with diasporas from all over the world, as well as the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the President’s Office of the diaspora, to assist in the development of Ghana by giving back to communities.

Inauguration

At the inauguration of the three facilities simultaneously last Saturday, a nephew, Ebenezer Asiedu Okyere, who represented Grace Akuamoah and her family in the USA, said Mrs Akuamoah and her late husband were devoted Christians who were committed to providing lifesaving water for communities in need.

He said Mrs Akuamoah and her family in the USA were concerned about the plight of the three communities and many others who benefited from the water project, adding that water is life, without which it is very difficult for human beings to survive and that necessitated the construction of the water facilities for the beneficiary communities, to save them from water borne diseases that affected most of the communities that did not have water.

“Mrs Akuamoah and the family out there have been putting themselves in your situation of water scarcity in your communities and the challenges and troubles you have been going through daily. This prompted them to team up with TEAM CSR to provide the water facilities for you in the three communities”.

“The hope of the NGOs who teamed up and provided the facilities for you the beneficiary communities is that the water facilities provided are going to offload your water challenges to the barest minimum if not eliminate the challenge altogether,” Mr Okyere stated.

The CEO of TEAM CSR, Mr Akuamoah, said not only was TEAM CSR working hand in hand with Father Sam Charities to help those in need in Ghana but “we also walk the talk and provide for those in need from our pockets as a family”.

He gave the assurance that the two NGOs would continue to provide boreholes to other communities that needed water.

Water problem

Two community members, Esther Tudeka and Patience Agbesi who spoke to the Daily Graphic at Ashifla and Kyekyewere respectively (at the inauguration), said they were happy they had water in their communities at long last. They said water had been their main problem for some years now and they had now been relieved.

According to Ms Tudeka at Ashifla, they normally walked about six kilometres from their community to a stream far from their village to fetch water for their daily domestic use.

She said it was mostly they, the younger ones who had been going to fetch water and it normally affected their early reporting for school.

“Sometimes, by the time we come back from the stream it will be 7:00 a.m. and that makes us late to school in spite of the fact that we wake up early enough to go and fetch water,” she added.

Answered prayer

A community leader at Ashifla, Atsu Afasunudzi, on behalf of the three communities, thanked the benefactors for their charitable donation which he said was going to improve their living conditions.

“We have suffered for far too long in terms of potable water and today through the two NGOs, God has answered our prayers. We are equally grateful to the leadership and the Ministers of the Rural Evangelistic Ministry who connected us to the NGOs. When you commit yourself to the Lord there will be blessings,” he stated.
