New security facility for Achimota Shopping Centre
The Achimota Retail Centre, which was opened recently, has been equipped with a state-of-the-art security technology that identifies, contains, prevents and arrests persons who commit or attempt to commit crime within the centre.

Apart from the electronic security aspect of the centre, the system has been strengthened by private and state security agents that work together to ensure the prevention of crime and a timely arrest of persons who commit crime.
The Daily Graphic observed a CCTV replay of the arrest of a phone snatcher, a 17-year-old who snatched a phone and attempted to mix with the crowd in an attempt to evade arrest.
He was picked up in no time by plain clothes men who happened to be patrolling the area.
Comprehensive security set-up
Later in an interview with the Daily Graphic, the Achimota Retail Centre Manager, Mr George Boakye Sarpong, said the centre had not taken the security of patrons and its tenants lightly and had provided a comprehensive security setup to ward off criminals and arrest those who might attempt to commit crime at the centre.
He said the centre had resorted to a three-way security that involved the electronic, human security and the patrons of the centre.
Mr Sarpong said the centre had an electronic system that provided a 24-hour monitoring of its inner and outer perimeters.
In all, he said, there were 31 cameras that record round-the-clock onto a hard-drive that could store data over a 30-day period.
Collaboration with state security
That, he said, provided ample time for the police and other security agencies to tap into the system regarding any criminal act that might have taken place within a period.
Apart from that, he said there were uniformed private security officials as well as ununiformed policemen patrolling the space.
Mr Sarpong appealed to the members of the public who patronised the centre to be vigilant and report any suspicious move or any criminal act to the centre’s security for immediate action.
