NDC to extend maternity leave to 4 months, fathers get 7 days

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has promised to extend maternity leave from the current three months to four months should the party win this year's general elections in December.

This was revealed by the party’s presidential running mate for the elections, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, when she took her turn to give some highlights of the party’s manifesto launch in Accra on Monday, September 7, 2020.

She said new mothers go through a lot of challenges caring for their new babies and that they needed more time to gather themselves together before going back to work.

That, she explained, the extension of the maternity leave will help new mothers to properly planned their lives before going back to their places of work.

The 2020 NDC manifesto is titled: “People’s Manifesto: Jobs, Prosperity and more.”

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also said under the next NDC government, fathers will also have seven days paternity leave to aid them in supporting their wives to care for their new babies.
