MTN Foundation honoured as highest corporate blood donor

The National Blood Bank has honored the MTN Ghana Foundation for its significant contribution to the Blood Bank. A plaque was presented to the Foundation at a brief ceremony held at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to honour companies, institutions and individuals who have donated blood to support the National Blood Bank.

 

The ceremony organized by the National Blood Bank was in commemoration of the National Blood Donors Day which fell on 2nd December, 2013. A citation presented to MTN Ghana Foundation states: 

“This citation is presented to staff and management of MTN Foundation in recognition of your significant contribution to saving the lives of many Ghanaians.  This you have done generously and freely through voluntary blood donation.

In the year 2013 alone, you gave sixty-two (62) units of blood, the HIGHEST among corporate organizations in Ghana.  On behalf of every person whose life has been saved through a blood transfusion, and on behalf of all Ghanaians, the National Blood Bank of Ghana is delighted to honour this great organization. Congratulations!” 

Receiving the plaque on behalf of the organization, Mrs. Rhoderlyn Entsua-Mensah, Sustainability and Social Impact Manager at MTN, thanked the National Blood Bank for its recognition of the Foundation’s efforts at helping those in need of blood. She dedicated the award to all the donors, staff of MTN and organizations who have contributed in diverse ways in making blood donation exercises organized over the years a success. 

She said, “The MTN Ghana Foundation has instituted the Blood Donation Exercise as an annual event on Valentine’s Day and we wish to encourage everyone to be part of this life saving exercise. On February 14, 2014 we will organize blood donation exercises in four regions namely, Northern, Greater Accra, Western, and Ashanti Region.” She further stated that “The Foundation is committed to using its resources to encourage people to donate blood because blood is essential for our survival as humans and it should be available at the hospitals for people anytime it is required to save a life.” 

The MTN Foundation continues to support the needy in society, through sustainable corporate social initiatives in Health, Education and Economic Empowerment. So far, the Foundation has invested an amount of GH₵13 million in various projects across the country.
