‘Motherhood is about being a source of hope, encouragement’

The National Director of Church Life and Nurture (CLAN) of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rev. Kwaku Bio Kyeame, has urged women to make themselves available to God in order for them to become honoured mothers.

He stated that motherhood was not only about being a biological mother, but a representation of being compassionate, patient, kind, forgiving, caring and sustaining, a source of wisdom and a reservoir of virtues, adding that “motherhood is about being a source of hope and encouragement, nurturing dreams and sustaining vision”.

This was contained in a message issued by Rev. Kyeame to climax this year’s Women’s Week.

He advised the women to use the celebration to serve as mothers to all those who were associated with them including children, husbands, colleagues at the workplace, church members, extended family members and society at large.

Transmitting good values

He said women had a crucial role to play in transmitting good Christian values to children and those under their influence, adding that men were also being called upon to partner the women and become sources of nurture, sustenance, comfort, encouragement and righteousness.

Rev. Kyeame called on all women of the church to join the women’s fellowship, because it was the official nurturing group for women in the PCG.

He pleaded with leaders of the fellowship to be accommodating and flexible in finding solutions to some of the nagging issues related to meeting times and difficulty with using the prescribed apparel for meetings, especially for women who come to fellowship meetings straight from the office, without compromising the core values of the fellowship.

He added that his prayer was that women of the church would continue to grow in faith, love and fellowship and be such effective mothers so that “we shall be compelled to call them honoured mothers”.

In a sermon, the Minister in charge of the Anointed One Congregation of the PCG at Sakumono, Rev. Emmanuel Adu-Tetteh, urged women to hold their dignity in high esteem, stressing that in the scheme of creation, God placed a price on women by creating them as helpers to men.

“Don’t be ungrateful to a fruitful woman, God has made women to be fruitful and multiply, so we should live as such,” he said and added, “A beautiful woman does good and not evil, strengthens herself and wakes up before daybreak, and uses her skills and capabilities to do good.”
