Mother remanded for killing two sons

A 35-year-old woman has been remanded in prison custody by the Ejura District Court for allegedly killing her two sons at Yeboa Akosua, a farming community near Ejura in the Ashanti Region.

The court, presided over by Mr Divine Kwaku Ahiadu, charged the accused, Adwoa Juliana, with two counts of murder and remanded her to reappear on August 31, 2020. Her plea was not taken.
The court also ordered the police to test the suspect for COVID-19 before sending her to the prison to ensure that she did not infect other inmates if she turned out to be positive.

Facts
Stating the facts of the case, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kyei Sarpong said the suspect was arrested on July 22, 2020 for allegedly killing her two sons.

This was after she left her matrimonial home a day earlier with the excuse of visiting her brother at a nearby village while her husband had gone to the Ejura market to sell his maize.

ASP Sarpong said she failed to return the same day; however, she was subsequently brought back by a neighbour to the husband's house with the younger child who was already dead.

This was after the suspect had gone to the neighbour’s house to report that the husband had tried to kill all three of them and she managed to escape with the dead child.

Arrest
The husband later lodged a complaint with the police at Ejura and the suspect was arrested.
ASP Sarpong said she could, however, not tell the police the whereabouts of her other son.

Search
The police, together with some members of the community, later embarked on a search for the second son and they found him at a farm about four miles away from their house half-buried with shredded GH¢200 and GH¢50 notes, together with Juliana’s bag.

ASP Sarpong said the case was still under investigation by the police.
