According to the sector minister, Ms Otiko Afisah Djaba, under the new government, the ministry was looking at working with the current Ghana National Household Registry (GNHR) to target, identify and enrol proper beneficiary households.

She said: “Our aim is to create a society of fair opportunities for all Ghanaians. As a new administration, we hope to create a fair and inclusive society which ensures that all citizens share in the country’s wealth and prosperity.”

The minister made this known when she briefed the media about the ministry’s determination to continue working in the areas of making the lives of the vulnerable and deprived in society more comfortable. This was during a meeting with the media in Accra, to interact and familiarise herself with them.

Vision
Among others, Ms Djaba said: “For me, I envisage a Ghana where every girl and boy, woman and man can fully live their potential to positively influence our society and the world at large.’’

She called on the media to be partners in development to help achieve the dream of the ministry and the government as a whole.

In the area of LEAP, she said, the ministry would establish a consistent and regular monthly disbursement plan as well as target female-headed households, where intervention might have the greatest positive impact.

On the School Feeding Programme, she said the government would institute measures to reduce the administrative cost of the programme to the barest minimum, adding that it was going to rationalise and improve monitoring processes under the programme.

She said the government would also provide adequate funding for monitoring under the programme and also train caterers on the hygienic preparation of nutritious food, as well as ensure regular payments to caterers.

The government, the minister added, would stimulate local agricultural growth, by requiring caterers to buy and use foodstuff grown locally from local farmers.

Gender mainstreaming
On gender inclusion, Ms Djaba disclosed that the government would ensure the appointment of women to at least 30 per cent of available public office positions and also set aside 50 per cent of Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) funds for female applicants.
