The items include books for beginners, learning materials, assorted pens and pencils, writing aids, clothes, shoes, bicycles and playing kits.

Rationale

Presenting the items, a representative of the foundation, Ms Dora Tawiah, said the mission of the foundation was to provide support for underprivileged children worldwide.

As a result of its mission, Ms Tawiah said the foundation organised a campaign dubbed “Give a child a gift for Christmas” upon hearing the plight of the children at the Royal Feed Home.

She said it was also the hope of the foundation to collaborate with other benevolent organisations to provide aid to the needy in society to make their lives better.

Other presentations

Ms Tawiah said the foundation also supported the Manhean Community School in Tema with books and learning resources, as well as school bags sourced from Piers Simon Appeal in the UK.

The Merona Foundation also presented similar items to the Glory High Academy at Agona Nkwanta in the Central Region and the Overflow Faith Centre at Oyibi, Accra.

Appreciation

The founder of the Royal Feed Home, Mrs Naomi Esi Amoah, who received the items, expressed appreciation to the foundation and assured that the items would be put to good use.

She said the home, which was established in 2002 with four abandoned children in the area, now had a population of 75, comprising 45 males and 30 females.

Mrs Amoah said the home had a farm, a poultry and a piggery which it relied on to feed the children.

However, the home faced challenges with transportation because it did not have a vehicle to transport the children to the hospital, for instance, whenever any of them fell sick.

She, therefore, appealed to the government and other benevolent organisations to come to their aid.
