The man, Mathew Twum, was said to have broken a CCTV camera at a house at Ridge in Accra and has been charged with causing unlawful damage.

Presenting the facts of the case before  the Adjabeng Court 1 presided over by Ms Arit Nsemoh, Sergeant Lois Konadu said that the complainant, Ibrahim Kombat, was a security guard with Eagle Watch Security Company Limited, while Twum is unemployed and  has no place of abode.

Sergeant Konadu said on October 23, 2015 at about 2:00a.m, Ibrahim woke up from sleep and saw Twum breaking the CCTV camera in front of SSNIT House, opposite the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), at North Ridge.

According to her, Twum was immediately arrested and sent to the Nima Police Station. She said Twum confessed to the offence and told the police he did not have a place of abode so he normally walked about till daybreak.

Sergeant Konadu said while Twum was walking about at dawn, he heard someone praying in the house. Thinking the CCTV camera was a doorbell, he tried to ring the bell by constantly jabbing it. When he did not get any response, he used a stone to hit and damaged the CCTV camera valued at Ghc1, 500.

The judge said it was necessary for Twum to be evaluated at the psychiatric hospital to find out if he was mentally capable of understanding the charges read to him.

As a result of the court’s directive, Twum was admitted to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital for evaluation and was unable to appear before the court when the case was called.
