Man jailed for threatening to kill father over mobile phone

A 24 year old man has been sentenced to three-years in prison with hard labour for threatening to kill his father over a mobile phone.

Yakubu Abukari is said to have chased his father out of their family house with a cutlass – forcing him (the father) to spend the night with a neighbour.

The incident happened on March 23 at Juaso in the Ashanti Region.

The Juaso Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Yusif Asibey, handed down the punishment after he pleaded guilty to the charge of threat of death.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Princeton Peasah Darkwah, Abukari, a welder, went to town at about 7pm, leaving behind his mobile phone on a wall in the house.

He said his father picked the phone and put it at a safer place.

However, upon return at about midnight, Abukari got angry that his phone had been taken from where he placed it; and started threatening everybody in the house.

The father brought out the phone and asked that him to come for it but he refused, insisting that, the old man walked to him with the phone and this resulted in a heated argument between the two.

The prosecution said Abukari’s mother, uncomfortable with what was going on, took the phone to her son but he would not take it from her and remained adamant that the father brought it himself.

Amid the confusion, he rushed into his room, came out with a cutlass and chased his father out of the house.

A formal report was made to the police the next morning and he was arrested.
