Man, 55, defiles 7-year-old girl

The Accra Circuit Court last Tuesday remanded a 55-year-old mason for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl.

Victor Kwasi Atadza was alleged to have defiled the girl on a bench in an uncompleted building after which he gave her GH¢2 and warned her not to inform anyone about the incident.

When he appeared in the court, presided over by Mrs Janet Harriet Akweley Quaye, Atadza pleaded not guilty for defilement.

Bail application

Counsel for the accused, Ms Janet Quaye Nartey, made an application for bail, arguing that her client would continue to appear before the court to defend himself and that he had the necessary sureties to guarantee him bail.

“He will also meet whatever conditions are set by the court and will not interfere with investigations or tamper with any evidence,’’ she said.

The court, however, refused the bail application and remanded Atadza into police custody and adjourned the case to September 28, 2017.

Alleged incident

The alleged incident, according to the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire, happened on August 30, 2017.

Atadza, who was on good terms with the mother of the alleged victim, told her and the brother, aged 11, to fetch water from his uncompleted house for their mother.

The prosecutor said when the two children got to the house, Atadza sent the boy to buy mosquito coil from a nearby store.

After the boy had brought the mosquito coil, Atadza again sent him to drop the item in his room in an uncompleted structure, the prosecutor explained.

“When he came back, he saw Atadza having sexual intercourse with his sister on the bench. Atadza stopped the act and gave the boy and girl GH¢2 each, warning them not to reveal the act to anybody,’’ the prosecutor added.

Chief Inspector Atimbire stated that the boy informed his mother immediately he got home. She also informed others who arrested Atadza and handed him over to the police.
