Mahama donates to Teshie ahead of Homowo
Former President John Dramani Mahama has presented food items and drinks to the Teshie Mantse’s Palace, the Teshie Council of Elders, and the five quarters of the Teshie traditional area.
The items which include bags of maize, cartons of fish, gallons of palm oil, drinks and bottled water is to support the celebration of the Teshie Homowo festival.

Mr Mahama who was represented by the Greater Accra Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Council of Elders, Mr Danny Annang, Ambassador Victor Smith, Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku, Mr Benjamin Ayiku Narteh and a host of constituency executives also presented an undisclosed amount of cash to the Palace and the five quarters of the area.
In his address, the chairman of the council of elders called for a ceasefire to all the chieftaincy-related disputes in the area.
He mentioned that the unending disputes that had plagued the Teshie Traditional area since the demise of Nii Ashitey Akomfra II in 1983 had stalled development and hindered peace in the area.
Mr Danny Annang who is an indigene of Teshie impressed on the feuding factions in the chieftaincy dispute to resolve their issues amicably or otherwise resort to the law courts for settlement.
He, however, indicated that he would prefer an out-of-court settlement because the factions were from the same house and clan.
"I honestly wish that this issue be resolved amicably with brothers understanding each other instead of resorting to the courts," the NDC stalwart said.
"I am hopeful that this protracted dispute would be resolved within the shortest possible time with things falling in their right places," he added.
Mr Annang who noted that a united front would bring rapid development to the area wished the chiefs and people well in their celebration of Homowo.
He explained that Mr Mahama had wanted to be physically present to spend time with the chiefs and people of Teshie, but his ongoing thank you tour of the northern regions had made it impossible for him to be present in person.
