Made-in-Ghana awards: Graphic adjudged Outstanding Print Media
The leading media organisation, the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), has been adjudged the Print Media Pride of Ghana for its dominance in the print media space in the country.
The group, which publishes the Daily Graphic and seven weekly newspapers, was honoured at the eighth edition of the Made-in-Ghana Awards held in Accra last Friday.

A member of the GCGL’s Corporate Communications team, Ms Yvonne Aryee, received the award on behalf of the company.
Also at the event, organised by the Entrepreneur Foundation of Ghana (EFG), 33 other companies and individuals were honoured for their outstanding contributions towards the promotion of Made-In-Ghana goods.
Event
Held on the theme: “Building Ghanaian Brands to Compete on Global Market”, the event also honoured distinguished individuals and companies whose products are made in Ghana and have impacted the lives of the people and also delivered efficient services in the country.
The awards, which also afforded the opportunity for some local companies to exhibit their products and services, were graced by some Ministers of State, including the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, who was the guest of honour, players in the business sector and members of the diplomatic corps.
In his address, Dr Awal commended the awardees for impacting the lives of Ghanaians and contributing to the national economy.
He urged them not to relent in their efforts but continue to attain higher heights to ensure that their products were globally accepted.
That, he emphasised, would enable Ghana to become the most valuable brand in Africa.
He encouraged the awardees to prioritise the development of young entrepreneurs in the country by training them in an environment that pursued excellence, stressing that it would help produce more entrepreneurs to reduce the high rate of unemployment in the country.
Celebrating local innovation
The United States Ambassador to Ghana, Mrs Stephanie Sanders Sullivan, in a pre-recorded video, commended the organisers of the awards for offering the chance to celebrate local innovations.
She commended entrepreneurs and the private sector for their efforts to keep the economy running, saying that in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ghana’s economy grew in 2020, with the government projecting a five per cent growth in 2021.
“Anyone who enters the business world is a risk-taker. After a year of outsized risks, tonight is an opportunity to celebrate. It is also an opportunity to look forward as we, cautiously, prepare for the post-pandemic world,” she said.
The ambassador observed that Ghana was an important economic partner for the US and continued to emerge as a major economy in Africa.
She said among the US government’s top priorities were the promotion of inclusive economic growth and increasing two-way trade and investment between the US and Ghana.
It was against that backdrop that, Mrs Sullivan said, many American firms, including Domino’s Pizza, Orkin Pest Control and United Airlines, had already realised the importance of Ghana’s market as a competitive gateway to the continent and were thus doing business in the country.
Other Awardees
Among the 33 awardees were the Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the McDan Group of Companies, Mr Daniel Mckorley, who was declared the Outstanding Personality of the year; the CEO of KAB-FAM Ghana Limited, Mr Charles Antwi-Boahen, who was honoured as the Outstanding Young Personality of the Year, with the Outstanding Woman Personality of the Year Award going to the Founder of West Blue Consulting, Ms Valentina Mintah.
Ghana’s Ambassador to Germany, Mrs Gina Ama Blay, emerged as the Outstanding Ghanaian Ambassador of the Year, while the Outstanding CEO of the Year Award was presented to the Managing Director of GOIL Company Limited, Mr Kwame Osei-Prempeh.
The Founder and Executive Chairman of Alpha Industries Ltd and Delta Paper Mill Ltd, Mr Marc Skaf, received the Outstanding Industrialist of the Year Award, the Outstanding Managing Director (MD) of the Year Award went to the MD of Apha TnD Ltd, Mr Pankaj Bhati, while the Made-in-Ghana Hall of Fame award was received by the Founder and MD of M & G Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Mr Gopal C. Vasu.
Indomie Instant Noodle was adjudged the Outstanding Product of the Year.
The EFG
The EFG, organisers of Ghana Entrepreneurs Awards, is a non-profit organisation which seeks to promote the power of entrepreneurship and innovation to grow the Ghanaian economy and improve living standards.
It is conceived from the growing need for Ghanaian and foreign entrepreneurs to network, create a business environment and take sustainable actions to propel Ghanaian businesses to greater heights.
It is also to decrease the unemployment rate through the conversion of unemployment to self-employment and the creation of jobs through new development of entrepreneurship and SMEs in Ghana.
The foundation is also to give Ghanaian and foreign resident entrepreneurs the opportunity to interact with one another through its platform and thereby increase their capacity for networking and entrepreneurial success, as well as assist entrepreneurs and the business community to influence dialogue on the economy.
