Lordina Foundation donates medical equipment to two hospitals

The Lordina Foundation has presented medical equipment and logistics to two hospitals in the Ashanti Region as part of its medical outreach programme.

The beneficiary hospitals were the Manso Nkwanta Hospital in the Amansie West District and the St Patrick’s Hospital at Offinso. Items presented included hospital beds, mattresses, wheelchairs, breathing circuits, catheters, gloves, syringes and stabilisers.

Medical facilities

Presenting the items, the First Lady indicated that the government was building new medical facilities at all levels of the health chain from teaching, regional and district hospitals to polyclinics, health centres, clinics and CHIPS compounds.

Mrs Mahama further noted that equipment and logistics for the healthcare facilities were also being provided, while healthcare professionals were being trained and posted all over the country.

However, she said, the government on its own could not achieve its vision of “Health for all” hence philanthropic organisations, donors and the private sector must supplement its efforts.

Lordina foundation

She said it was against that background that the Lordina Foundation had included medical charity in its work and had since embarked on medical outreach across the length and breadth of the country.

The First Lady said to achieve its core objective, the Lordina Foundation had worked with its partners, Medshare of the United States and other sponsors, to mobilise the items the foundation had been donating to district and community-based health facilities to enhance the quality of healthcare delivery.

Mrs Mahama indicated that Ghanaians must not suffer poor healthcare or lose their lives just because of the disadvantage of their geographical location.

Medical facilities

“As I embarked on this journey, I have come to appreciate how support such as this could enhance the capacity of medical facilities to provide better health care to the population served,” she said.

She said the hospital in Manso Nkwanta and the St Patricks Hospital were very important ones as they provided health care to people over a very wide catchment area.

Mrs Mahama said she was impressed with the services being provided at the two hospitals and gave an assurance that the Lordina Foundation would continue to support the effort of the government to deliver world-class health care to the people.

Appreciation

For his part, the Omanhene of Manso Nkwanta, Nana Bi Kusi Appiah II, expressed his appreciation to the First Lady for the equipment, which he said would go a long way to help the people of the catchment area to stay healthy at all times.

He said since President Mahama assumed office as the number one gentleman of the land, Manso Nkwanta had seen a lot of developments and the hospital, which was only a building, had now been expanded to include maternity and children’s wards.

Nursing college

He said a new nursing college had been established in the town and appealed to the government for assistance to train the young women and men who were interested in the nursing profession.

The Chief of Offinso, Nana Wiafe Akenten III, expressed his appreciation to the Lordina Foundation for the kind gesture and commended the First Lady for working so hard to improve the lot of the vulnerable in society, especially women and children.
