Lockdown: Two human cargoes busted in escape bid

The Police in Ejisu on Monday arrested two Tamale bound trucks loaded with foodstuff with smuggled passengers aboard.

The more than 40 passengers on each truck were mostly head porters and children who were trying to go back to the northern Ghana to avoid the lockdown.

The trucks managed to beat the check point at Bomfa Junction but could not escape the prying eyes of the security personnel at Ejisu.

The police at Ejisu insisted on checking the load in the trucks only to discover that passengers had been hidden among the food items packed in sacks.

The head porters sat on the sacks in the trucks and were covered with the tarpaulin.

The Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Mr Godwin Ahianyo confirmed the arrest to the Daily Graphic and said they were made to go back to Accra.

He said the drivers and the passengers were cautioned and made to go back.
