Lexta Ghana distributes sanitary towels to head porters

To ensure and support good menstrual hygiene practices, Lexta Ghana, producers of Yaaz range of sanitary, has educated and distributed sanitary towels to 100 head porters within the Madina Polyclinic and market catchment area.

The head porters were taken through demonstrations on how to use and dispose of sanitary towels the right way.

The exercise, which was a joint venture between Lexta Ghana and the Medical Women's Association, Ghana (MWAG), also gave the young ladies the opportunity to seek clarifications on their menstrual cycles.

Be observant

The president of the MWAG, Dr Mary Amoakoh-Coleman, who led the demonstrations, advised the young ladies to take note of changes in their menstrual cycles and report to hospitals in order to curb future complications.

She said every lady was different and so was the body make up, “so people may have various differences in their menstrual cycles, however, if reported at health centres, doctors can help to ascertain if it is an anomaly or otherwise”.

Dr Amoakoh-Coleman also encouraged the young ladies to take pride in menstruation and not to shy away from it, adding, “it is natural and part of the existence of every girl or woman,” and further encouraged them to use sanitary towels during menstruation.

Reinforcement

The head of Sales and Marketing at Lexta Ghana, Mr Ernest Okine Tawiah, said the exercise was to reinforce the need for menstrual hygiene by supporting vulnerable young ladies in the society.

“It is on this note that this year, our team from Yaaz decided to reach out to head porters, one of the vulnerable in society as far as menstrual hygiene is concerned.

“We believe that menstrual hygiene is a phenomenon that has to be reinforced from time to time due to its important role in the life of girls and women.”

“Our ultimate goal is to give back to society while educating and reinforcing the need for good menstrual hygiene practices among young girls and women in the country,” he stressed.

Ultimate menstrual hygiene

Mr Tawiah encouraged health practitioners to keep reinforcing good menstrual hygiene practices in their various outfits, “and to parents, educate your children on menstrual hygiene at home and make it a commitment to buy enough sanitary towels for your children.

“Together, let’s all encourage the use of sanitary towels for ultimate menstrual hygiene among girls and women,” he said.
