Let’s maintain peace, tranquillity in country — Mallam Yawfiq

The First Deputy National Chief Imam, Mallam Munir Abdallah Tawfiq, has called on Muslims to contribute towards national efforts to maintain the current peace and tranquillity in the country.

He said they could do that by becoming agents of peace and security, instead of of spreading agitation, confusion and misunderstanding.

Mallam Tawfiq made the call when a section of the Muslim community gathered at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park in Accra to pray as part of activities to mark Eid-ul-Fitr nationwide.

He said although almost everybody was praying to Allah to maintain the peace and tranquillity with which He had blessed Ghana, it was very crucial to support the prayers with actions that would maintain that peace, instead of actions that would facilitate confusion and lawlessness.

Mallam Tawfiq called on the citizenry, irrespective of their religious and political affiliations, to remain united with a common goal of ensuring a peaceful Ghana before, during and after the November polls.

Quoting from the Holy Quran to back his call, he said Almighty Allah said in the Holy Quran Chapter 49:10: “All believers are but brothers, therefore seek reconciliation between brothers and fear Allah, so that you may be blessed with mercy.”

Islam is a religion of peace

He said it was evidently clear that Islam was a religion of peace and tolerance that did not support any act of lawlessness, injustice and, above all terrorism.

He said he could, therefore, say with proof  from the Quran that Islam had nothing to do with terrorism and so any Muslim who perpetrated any act of terrorism was trying to achieve a personal objective, be it political or social, under the cover of Islam.

Mallam Tawfiq called on the citizenry to continue the prayer for peace and security in the forthcoming election and also pray that Allah chose the best leader for Ghana.

Muslims relating to non-Muslims

He said the principles of Islam required that Muslims dealt justly with non-Muslims in the call for the truth, while sincerely extending kindness to the needy among them.

“True Islam is characterised by good behaviour, charity, honouring parents, establishing a good relationship with family members and neighbours,” he said.

He said a Muslim should be noted for preventing pride or self-importance, oppression, injustice and elevating oneself above others.
