Lead people to Christ instead of focusing on prosperity - Rev. Ed Arcton admonishes church leaders

An inter-denominational Christian non-profit organisation, Your Money Counts (YMC) Ghana, has been launched in Accra, with a call on church leaders to focus on raising Christ-like congregations rather than on prosperity.

The President of the organisation, Rev. Ed Arcton, said churches today were fixated on preaching about prosperity instead of its main mandate of leading people to Christ.

Speaking at the launch of YMC Ghana in Accra, he said it was worrying that although the majority of citizens profess to be Christians, corruption and abuse of resources were widespread.

“Majority of government officials and people in high positions are Christians, but look at the level of corruption in the country.

“These are people who sit in our churches and listen to what we preach week after week. Can we say we are not to be blamed as church leaders?” he queried

Focus

Rev. Arcton said although preaching about prosperity was not wrong, the excessive attention given to the subject makes some Christians assume life was all about amassing wealth.

The focus, he said, must therefore, be on integrity, hard work, faithfulness and diligence, which open doors and give money through the right way.

The president said until church leaders focus on teaching their congregants stewardship in all aspects of life, the high level of corruption and mismanagement will continue in society.

Rev. Arcton added that resources provided by the organisation through its period workshops, seminars and personalised coaching for churches and the community will be at no cost.

“We believe that most Christians do not know or understand these principles of stewardship and what the Bible teaches us to do.

“The only way to get our messages across is through sharing this knowledge and opening our doors to all who want to learn. In addition to our printed resources of real-life experiences, we have updated our website with useful information,” he said.

Biblical principles

A team member of the organisation, Pastor Isaac Takyi, also stressed the need to teach and promote biblical principles of finance, ethics and environmental stewardship.

“We believe that sound financial management is one of the cornerstones of a thriving life and community. By applying biblical teachings on stewardship, generosity and wise financial practices, we aim to empower individuals and families to achieve financial stability and freedom.

“We recognise that the earth is a precious gift from our Lord Jesus, and it is our responsibility to care for it. Our organisation will advocate for and educate about sustainable living practices, conservation efforts and the biblical mandate to be good stewards of the environment,” he added.

Pastor Takyi further said “Your Money Counts Ghana is more than just an organisation; it is a movement. A movement towards a future where financial literacy, ethical integrity and environmental responsibility are deeply rooted in the bible among our communities.”

“We envision a Ghana where individuals not only prosper financially but also live out their faith in Jesus Christ in ways that bless others and honour our Lord Jesus Christ,” he said.
