The Ghana Police Service says lack of mobile network coverage  in some parts of the country is impeding its fight against highway robbery at some prone areas.

According to the police some parts of the Upper West, Upper East and Western Regions had been identified as highway robbery prone areas.

However, the low or lack of mobile networks in those areas was affecting the operations of the police to fight highway robbers.

The finding, according to the police, was arrived at after a “comprehensive” analysis was done as part of a pragmatic effort to fight highway robbery.

This was contained in a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Director-General of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP David S. Eklu.

“Among the factors contributing to the high incidence of highway robbery at the named areas is the low or no mobile network coverage at the identified hotspots,” the statement said.

The statement concluded that the Police Administration will soon hold a meeting with the telecom operators to help resolve the situation.
