Kuapa Kokoo elects Fatima Ali as President 

A middle age woman, Madam Fatima Ali has been returned unopposed as president of the Kuapa Kokoo Farmers Union (KKFU) at a national delegates conference held in Kumasi.

Delegates endorsed her to lead the union for another four-year term with a Yes vote of 158 representing 93.5 per cent against 11 No votes.

Her tramp card of fighting for the welfare of farmers and improving on their health as well as working with both local and international bodies such as Millennium Promise Alliance, UTZ and Rainforest Alliance and West Africa Network in the interest of the farmers won her the day.

Executives

The well-attended elections also elected James A. Kwarteng as Vice president with 51.2 per cent of total vote cast, Cecilia Appiadu was elected as treasurer with 45.8 per cent, with Sampson Cobina elected as the Assistant Treasurer.

The 171 delegates also elected Mary Appiah, Mary Kosi and Ernest Boateng as Executive members.

Fatima

An elated Fatima Ali promised a united front and helping to improve on the total well-being of farmers across the country.

But her main target is to contribute towards increasing in yield and productivity for farmers and empower especially the women through periodic capacity building.

Solidarity

Solidarity messages from partners praised the farmers for an excellent election devoid of rancor and acrimony which they say could be emulated at Ghana’s political elections.

Among them was tintank, Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) which was impressed with the manner in which the election was conducted in a free and fair manner.

Chief Nat

The Country Director for Millennium Promise Alliance, Chief Nat EboNsarko, praise leadership for their collaboration in the setting up of the TeleAgric Center, the first in the world.

The Centre is to bridge the Extension Service gap between farmers and officials and provide useful information to help improve farming activities.

The Kuapa Kokoo Health directorate screened farmers of all kinds of illnesses and offered instant treatment and medication to them.
