Work on the Kotokuraba Market in Cape Coast is steadily progressing,with about 70 per cent of it completed.
When the Daily Graphic visited the site yesterday, both Chinese and Ghanaian workers were seen busily working on the project.
The facility, which is expected to be completed in June 2016, will comprise shops, banks, hospitals and schools.
It will also have a car park, an office block, a parking lot, restaurants, a fire department, offices, a drainage system and walkways to ensure the free movement of traders and customers.
The Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mrs Priscilla Arhin Korankye, said report on the project for the third quarter of 2015 indicated that the project was 66 per cent complete.
Commencement of work
Work on the project began in December 2014 after a court in Cape Coast had ordered the demolition of the old project to make way for the stadium.
That was after some traders had prayed the court to halt the demolition of the old market until decent structures had been provided for their relocation.
Some traders at the market said they were hopeful the project would be completed on schedule.
The Site Engineer, Mr Samuel Wilberforce, told the Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, during his visit to the site in September last year, that a legal battle between some traders and the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly had delayed work on the project.
