The mortuary has the capacity to preserve 350 bodies, bringing the total capacity of the Pathology Department of the hospital to 750.

According to the management of the hospital, the new mortuary was to meet the increasing demand for mortuary services.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KATH, Dr Joseph Akpaloo, handed over the new facility to Dr Ossei Sampane, the Head of the Pathology Department, at a ceremony in Kumasi.

The project was financed by the hospital from its internally generated funds (IGF).

Additionally, the hospital has also purchased a Toyota Urvan hearse, costing $40,000, to convey the dead to the mortuary and for rentals.
As the main referral centre in the northern sector, KATH takes delivery of at least 60 bodies a day.

The CEO of KATH also presented a Ford ambulance, provided by the government, to the hospital to enhance its health services.

Dr Akpaloo thanked the board and the government for their support, and assured them that he would personally ensure that the vehicles and the mortuary were properly maintained.
