Kasoa residents appeal for public schools

Residents of two communities at Kasoa in the in the Awutu Senya Municipality of the Central Region have appealed to the government to build more public schools in the area to cater for their wards.

In separate interviews, some residents of Great Lamptey Mills and Christian Hill said the lack of public schools in the area was making it difficult for them to send their children to school, since they could not afford the fees charged by the private schools.

Private and public schools

There are 175 private schools and four public schools in the Awutu Senya East Municipality.

A teacher in a private school at Christian Hills, who pleaded anonymity, said most of the schools in that area were privately owned and explained that a number of children of school age were forced to stay at home because their parents could not afford the high school fees charged by the private schools.

She said some of the children had to walk long distances to school, while others were compelled to cross the busy highway  to school at Amanfrom and Akweley.

Municipal chief executive

When contacted, the Municipal Chief Executive for Awutu Senya East, Mr Adams Nuhu, said there were plans to provide schools for all the communities in the municipality but indicated that there were problems with land acquisition.

He said provision had been made for the construction of four more public schools soon, and expressed optimism that with the construction of the new interchange and road markings would facilitate pedestrian crossing, and also guarantee the safety of children.
