Kaneshie Presby Church supports Graphic Needy Fund

The Kaneshie Presbyterian Church yesterday raised GH¢6,475 to support the Graphic Needy Trust Fund, a social support fund of the Graphic Communications Group Ltd (GCGL), with a call on Christians to share with those who are needy and less fortunate in society.

“A church that worships God will always serve humanity.

It will always help those who are unfortunate in society. It will always help them when the need arises,” the Minister in charge of the Kaneshie Presby Church, Rev. Dr G.N.N Odonkor, said during a sermon.

The need to support

The fund, with the motto: “A million good Samaritans: Save a life,” seeks to raise funds to help the needy in society access quality health.

He commended the GCGL for establishing the Graphic Needy Trust Fund to champion a good cause, which otherwise would have been left undone.

Rev. Dr Odonkor noted that there were a number of people with illnesses and diseases that were not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), “and so somebody must help.”

“To think that Graphic Communications Group Ltd will not only think of its profit but to extend help to society means that all of us must support them.

“We must help them, we must support them because, who knows, perhaps, someone you know may benefit from it,” Rev. Dr Odonkor, who is currently the Clark-elect of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, told his congregation.

Theme

Speaking on the theme, “Called by God to serve,” Rev Dr Odonkor asked Christians to identify their God-given talents and put them at the disposal of others, saying, “Remember that anytime God calls you, know that you have been called while others have been denied.

“So, what service are you then offering to fulfil this calling of the Lord,” he asked and added that once God called, there was a task to fulfil.

He said it was important to clearly identify the agenda of God for every Christian, “and unless you know what agenda it is, you will be wallowing in confusion, you will be wallowing in darkness.”

Purpose of call

Referring to the call of the disciples by Jesus, he said, one did not know why he was called and was wallowing in darkness and ultimately ended up in destruction because he did not know why he was called.

He told the congregation that each one of them had been called by God, stressing that when God called someone, he prepared the person for the task ahead of him or her.

The Clark-elect reminded them that they had been called by God first to worship Him and that was why they converged on the church premises, stressing that any other reason for anyone in the church other than to worship God was secondary.

Rev. Dr Odonkor said the second purpose for attending church was to share fellowship with other believers and to serve humanity.

Presenting the cheque, he prayed that many might be touched to freely support the Graphic Needy Trust Fund by donating generously for the benefit of the larger society.

Response

In response, the acting Chair of the fund, Mrs Kyerewaa Asiamah Wiafe, told the congregation that it had become necessary for the social support fund of the GCGL to seek partnership following the huge numbers of requests from the public, particularly the needy, for support to seek medical care for life-threatening sicknesses.

She thanked the congregation for their kind gesture and assured them that their donation would be put to the intended use.
