Sources at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service explained to the Daily Graphic that the police sought to remand the accused persons to enable investigations to continue.

The sources were hopeful that by the next date set for the suspects to reappear in court, the police would have reached an advanced stage of the investigations to facilitate the prosecution process.

Background

The accused persons allegedly shot Sergeant Michael Dzamesi and Lance Corporal Mohammed Awal, both attached to the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, at Kasoa.

The two officers were on task force duties on the Kasoa-Winneba highway on the fateful day.

The accused, who were using an unregistered Toyota Camry vehicle and said to be driving recklessly, shot the unarmed policemen in the final incident of a row with the police officers after the civilians refused to stop when they were signalled to do so.

Four suspects were arrested on the same day after the incident, but Duah, whose pistol was found in the abandoned Toyota Camry, managed to escape, prompting the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr James Oppong-Boanuh, to announce a GH¢10,000 bounty on his head.

Also, copies of Duah’s picture were circulated to all the police formation units and through the traditional and social media platforms to alert the public.

Based on intelligence subsequently gathered, the suspect was arrested on the Adomi Bridge at Atimpoku last Saturday on his way to the Volta Region.

He was arrested on board a Golf saloon car with registration number GW 5972 – 18, with his face supposedly disguised with a large plaster on the left side.
