Justice Dery returns to court to appeal dismissal of contempt case

Embattled High Court Judge, Justice Paul Uutter Dery has filed an appeal at an Accra High Court following the dismissal of a contempt case he filed against some media personalities for their role in the public airing of Anas’ video on alleged judicial corruption in Ghana.

Justice Dery is praying the court to reverse the earlier decision of an Accra High Court presided over by Justice Gertrude Torkonoo to dismiss the case on the grounds that it was frivolous since the applicant himself had withdrawn the substantive case against the showing of the much-watched scandalous exposé.

According to him, he was not informed about Tuesday’s hearing which according to him, was scheduled for Monday, October 12, 2015.

He further argued that the judge who presided over the matter “erred” in dismissing the case, and noted that the four persons cited in the contempt case had not yet been served with the said application.

Mr. Dery had prayed the court to convict and punish the Chief Executive Officer of Starr FM, Nathaniel Kwabena Anokye Adisi [Bola Ray], the Acting Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, Samuel Frempong Addo, Deputy Editor of the New Crusading Guide, Ernest Addo and the Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Sulemana Braimah.

He had sued them for various roles they played in publicising the screening of the video which allegedly captured him and other judges taking bribes.
