Johnson-Sirleaf, Rawlings congratulate Mahama

“As you begin your new term of office, we pray that the almighty God will continue to shower you with blessing, wisdom, courage and sustained good health for the onerous task ahead”

The statement expressed the hope that the long and cordial relationship between the two countries would further be cemented under President Mahama's able leadership.

“Let me assure you of Liberia’s support and cooperation as we work together for the mutual benefit of our two countries and for the promotion of the directives of the charters of ECOWAS, Africa Union and the United Nations.”

Former President J.J Rawlings has also congratulated President-elect Mahama.

In a statement issued in Accra,  the former President urged the leading opposition party to respect the atmosphere of peace, which characterised the elections.

According to him if there were grievances over the results of the elections, the party should follow the appropriate channels and desist from creating an atmosphere that could  potentially hurt the peace and stability in the country.

Former President Rawlings advised the President- elect  to endeavour to restore and defend the NDC’s ideals of unity, stability, development, probity and accountability at all times, as he fulfills the mandate entrusted upon him by an expectant electorate.

The satement commended all Ghanaians for ensuring that the electoral process was held in an atmosphere of serenity despite the challenges posed by the introduction of the voter verification equipment.
