Invest financial support received from MASLOC - Market women advised

The Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Mrs Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, has advised market women to judiciously invest financial support provided them by the centre to build up capital to expand their businesses.

That, she explained, would enable MASLOC to advance assistance to more women.

Mrs Attionu made the call in Ho in the Volta Region last Saturday when MASLOC disbursed GH¢250,200 in soft loans to 476 market women who had constituted themselves into 20 groups.

The MASLOC boss was in the Volta region as part of her nationwide tour to disburse soft loans to groups of market women to improve their activities.

Mrs Attionu and her team have also been to the Upper East, Upper West and the Northern regions to disburse loans to groups of market women.

MASLOC credit facility

The MASLOC credit facility, which carries two per cent interest, is reserved for market women who have formed trading groups.

This is to ensure effective monitoring of the use of the funds and also to facilitate prompt repayment.

So far, MASLOC has disbursed GH5,791,925 to 9,993 market women in the Volta Region and have achieved a recovery rate of 80.15 per cent.

Interest in women affairs

In an interview, Mrs Attionu said the centre took great interest in the affairs of women because improving their well-being meant an extension to the whole family, and added,

“We are doing everything possible to enable them to stand on their feet so that they would be able to support themselves”.

Mrs Attionu said through education, the women were now getting the understanding that monies given to them were not for free as they used to think before.

Consequently, repayment had been impressive in the various regions where they had been to.

She said MASLOC had established a Financial Literacy Education Programme which had enabled the repayment to improve tremendously.

Gratitude

The beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to the government and MASLOC for recognising their plight and coming in to support them with the loans.

They gave an assurance that they would put the monies to good use so that they could pay back on time for others to also benefit.
