Information Ministry launches ‘Amplified’ project

The Ministry of Information has introduced an innovative project to promote business innovations and the activities of social entrepreneurs in the country.

Dubbed: ‘Amplified’, the project seeks to give entrepreneurs a larger platform to exhibit their work, including the promotion of their products and services on social media handles of the ministry and other traditional media outlets.

Significance

The Minister of Information, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, who launched the project in Accra yesterday, described it as a social marketing project that would leverage the growing followership of the ministry’s social media handles to showcase the innovations of entrepreneurs in the country.

He said the project was divided into three categories — Amplified Business, Amplified Success and Amplified Social.

"These three categories will allow the ministry to use its social media platforms to amplify the products and services of young entrepreneurs to enable them to reach larger audiences.

“Amplified Success is for mentoring the youth and sharing inspiring stories, while Amplified Social will promote critical social protection programmes and courses to get the needed attention and partnership," the minister added.

Mr Nkrumah said the project was in partnership with social media influencers, such as bloggers, and some traditional media outlets which had agreed to further the work of entrepreneurs, CSOs and other establishments who will post on the ministry's social media channels.

Other partners are the Ministry of Trade and its agencies, the ministries of Gender and Social Protection, Education and Youth and Sports.

"Collectively, we will amplify the work of young entrepreneurs, social protection programmes and mentorship activities for them to also reach a larger audience," he said.

Commendation

The Minister of Education, Mr Yaw Osei Adutwum, commended the Information Ministry for not only focusing on its primary role of informing the public about government projects, programmes and policies but also looking for innovative ways of getting young people to succeed and create a better future.

He urged the youth to dream big and also consider the initiative as part of their journey to success, adding that he had also started an initiative in his constituency to create 100 engineers in the area within the next five years.

For his part, the acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Mr Nelson Owusu Ansah, described the project as laudable, saying: “When the youth are provided the needed support, they can be the game changers."

He encouraged the youth to take advantage of the platform to project themselves and their businesses.

He said the NYA would support the initiative, since all the three areas of focus of the project were priority areas of the authority.
