Graphic Online's Joshua Bediako Koomson reports that the IGP explained that the 22 were promoted in recognition of their hard work, dedication and contributions to the Ghana Police Service (GPS) in the fight against crime and efforts to reduce criminal activities across the country.
The officers, who had served in the rank of ACP for a minimum of four years, were promoted following recommendations by the Police Council and approval by the President.
They were decorated with their new ranks at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Tuesday (October 6, 2026).
Promotion
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, said the promotion should motivate the officers to join other senior officers in strengthening the fight against crime and ensuring the safety and security of the public.
He said the officers had supported various divisions and operations of the service and contributed to the progress made in fighting and reducing crime across the country.
“This promotion that we are getting today is to let you know that the government and the people of Ghana are happy with your work and it is a challenge to you to work harder so that people will enjoy their peace, people will go about their normal duties without any attack from any group of people and so that we will continue to raise the image of the GPS,” he said.
The IGP said the newly promoted DCOPs would be expected to occupy senior positions within the service, including positions at the regional level.
He urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating stronger leadership and supporting the service to maintain law and order.
Appreciation
Speaking on behalf of the newly promoted officers, DCOP Ruben Asiwoko expressed gratitude to the President for approving their promotion and to the Police Council for the confidence reposed in them.
He described the promotion as an honour and a greater responsibility to serve the country and contribute to the development of the Police Service.
“On behalf of the newly promoted Deputy Commissioners of Police of the Ghana Police Service, we wish to express our profound gratitude and appreciation for the confidence reposed in us through our promotion to this important rank,” he said.
DCOP Asiwoko also expressed appreciation to the Vice-President and Chairperson of the Police Council, the Minister for the Interior and members of the Police Council for their leadership, guidance and oversight.
He further thanked the Police Management Advisory Board (POMAB) for its support and contribution to the administration and professional development of the service.
He expressed appreciation to the IGP for his leadership, encouragement and commitment to the development of the GPS.
“We recognise the responsibility associated with our new rank and we pledge to justify the confidence placed in us through our continued service to the country,” he said.
