Although the discovery brought some relief to the police, it increased the tempo of wailing by relatives of the deceased in the town.

Kwame Michael, 18, had lured the deceased, Mavis Boateng, who was his uncle’s wife, into the bush on the pretext of going to carry cocoa beans from the farm and, in a gruesome manner, beheaded her, hid the body in a hole in a log and concealed the head at a different place.

Michael has been remanded in police custody by the Bekwai Magistrate Court.

His plea has not been taken.

He has reportedly confessed to the crime but is yet to reveal his motive for killing the woman.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Bekwai District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police Mr Edward Obeng-Boateng, said around 7 a.m. last Saturday, Michael had asked Mavis, who was returning from the refuse dump, to accompany him to his farm to collect cocoa beans.

He said the last time Mavis had been seen was when she was on her way to the Esuookoo farmlands with Michael, but when he was queried, the culprit denied knowing Mavis’s whereabouts.

A search team later found her headless body.

The deceased was a mother of three.
