Hawa Koomson responds to Police CID invitation

The Minister of Special Development Initiatives, Mavis Hawa Koomson has responded to an invitation by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Police in the Central Region.

The invitation is over a misunderstanding that occurred at a voter registration centre situated at the Step to Christ polling station, Kasoa on Monday (July 20, 2020) which resulted in the Minister firing a gun. Ms Hawa Koomson, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Awutu Senya East Constituency admitted in a television interview with Adom TV on Monday that she fired the warning shots to defend herself and that of her people after feeling threatened while touring registration centres in her constituency.

Graphic Online understands that Ms Koomson reported to the Police CID in the company of her lawyers. Following the incident on Monday, several groups including IMANI, Occupy Ghana and the National Peace Council have condemned the actions of the Minister. They have also called on President Akufo-Addo to sack her. But the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Freddie Blay says calls for the her dismissal were "pointless" and "absolutely needless".
