Bolga briefing

Briefing journalists on the incident in Bolgatanga on Wednesday, the Upper East Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Redeemer Vincent Dedjoe, said an MTN merchant, Mr Ezekiel Adoliba, reported to the police that two unidentified men, on a motorbike at Yikene, near Bolgatanga, had ordered him to stop when he was returning home after he had closed from work on Wednesday, September 13, this year.

Mr Dedjoe said Mr Adoliba told the police that one of the robbers pulled a gun and fired at him, as a result of which he sustained a gunshot wound on his forehead.

The victim alleged that the robbers succeeded in collecting his bag which contained his phones and accessories and GH¢8,000.

Following the report, the police dispatched a team of investigators to the crime scene on September 15, 2017 to investigate the matter.

During initial investigations, Mr Dedjoe said, Issaka was arrested, and in the course of a search conducted in his room, the police found the case of a Bruno pistol and five rounds of 380 ammunition.

According to the commander, when the suspect was interrogated, he mentioned Akologo as the owner of the weapon.

He said the police then arrested Akologo and, during a search in his house, they found a Bruno Mod 92 pistol with 13 rounds of ammunition and 165 Ridden H.E.Loom 99 Exp 4070 explosives.

Akologo was said to have told the police during further interrogations that he received the pistol from Yakubu.

Mr Dedjoe explained that Akologo then led the police to Yakubu's house, where Yakubu told the police that Detective Cpl Williams had given the weapon to him to sell for GH¢2,000.

Victim’s items

The Regional Police Commander said on September 18, 2017, Awilo was arrested and, during a search in his house, the police found eight AAA cartridges and some of the items belonging to Mr Adoliba, the robbery victim.

He said preliminary investigations showed that there was a syndicate operating in the Bolgatanga municipality that was snatching mobile phones, motorbikes and money from residents.

He, therefore, called on the public to be vigilant and security conscious and endeavour to volunteer information to the police.
