GRIDCo restores power to Accra, Tema

Power has been restored to Accra and Tema following the completion of maintenance works on transmission lines by engineers of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo).

The two cities were plunged into total darkness last Wednesday night.

The Head of Public Relations at GRIDCo, Mr Albert Quainoo, told the Daily Graphic that the power crisis was triggered by multiple challenges experienced on its transmission lines at Achimota and Adjiriganor and also on the Accra-Aboadze corridor, which made it impossible for the company to evacuate power to the metropolises and their environs.

“Our priority, when these things happen, is to immediately isolate the affected transmission lines from the system and work to restore power on the other lines,” he said.

The maintenance team, according to Mr Quainoo, completed work on the lines and restored them to service around 2:30 p.m. yesterday.

“As of the moment, we are carrying all the power being generated from Tema to Accra and everybody is supposed to have electricity, except those who have been scheduled to go off,” he stated.
