Graphic reporter wins award at maiden N/R GJA Awards

Mr Mohammed Fugu (left), a reporter with the Northern Regional office of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), receiving an award from Ms Saudatu Belko Media Relations officer of the University for Development Studies.

He was adjudged the Best Journalist in Education Reporting at the maiden Northern Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards in Tamale.

He is one of Daily Graphic's committed and dedicated reporters who has a deep passion for reporting on rural and education issues which had impacted on many lives.

Other award winners were Diana Ngon of Citi News — Peace Building; Mohammed Hashim of Joy News — Health; Joyce Kantam of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) — Gender and Child Rights; Eric Kombat of Daily Guide — Sanitation and Hygiene; Yahaya Mashudu of The Finder; Sayida Maltiti Sadick of Sagani TV — Young Female
Promising Journalist, and Mohammed Baba Kamil of TV Africa — News Reporter and Regional Best Reporter.

Justice FM, Diamond FM and 123 FM also won awards for their contribution towards the development of the region.

The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Saeed, was also honoured at the ceremony as an advocate of peace.

Some journalists who worked in the region but are now on retirement were also honoured with citations for their contributions to journalism in the region and the country as a whole.

They are Mr Alidu Baba, formerly of GBC; Mr Fred Osei Agyemang of Ghanaian Times and Mr Kassim Abdallah Perez, Chief Executive Officer of RUMNET.

The awards night was held on the theme: "Promoting Peace in Northern Ghana— the Role of the Media".
