The government of Ghana has extended its deepest condolences to the family of Javits Frimpong, a 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager who was fatally shot in the Bronx, New York, USA, on Thursday, October 29, by yet-to-be-identified assailants while on his way to school.
In a statement issued on October 30, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, spoke directly with Thomas Frimpong, the father of Javits, and assured him of the full support of the government in the family's pursuit of justice.
"We will pursue justice, and we will make sure that those who did this do not get away with it," the Minister stated.
On behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, saying: "We are all saddened. We are all distraught. He did not deserve this."
Officials from Ghana's Permanent Mission in New York visited Mr Frimpong at his home to commiserate with him and his family and convey solidarity, condolences, and the support of Ghana.
While condemning the killing, the government has urged the relevant authorities in the Bronx, New York, to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The Ministry said it and the Permanent Mission in New York will actively pursue justice, working with US authorities and stand ready to provide appropriate legal and consular assistance.
