Government asks for dialogue with JUSAG

The government has expressed its readiness to discuss and address the concerns of members of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG).

It has subsequently asked the association to reconsider the industrial action it plans to begin on August 27, this year.

It said considering the timing of the JUSAG's strike action, coming only three days before the expected judgement on the election petition by the Supreme Court, dialogue rather than a strike action would be the panacea for the grievances of the members.

A Deputy Minister of Information and Media Relations, Mr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, made the appeal yesterday, at the daily briefing at the Flagstaff House, Kanda in Accra.

In a statement issued last Tuesday, JUSAG threatened to go on strike, beginning  on August 27, 2013, if all outstanding allowances due to its members were not paid by August 26, 2013.

It said agitations for the payment of the allowances began earlier in the year and culminated in an intended strike in April.

The statement said JUSAG suspended that strike action after a meeting with the Judicial Council and management, and indicated that since the suspension of the strike action, all efforts to ensure that the allowances were paid had proved futile.

Mr Murtala Muhammed said the Judicial Service workers might have genuine concerns, but urged them to dialogue with the government for the resolution of their concerns.
