"I cannot lead by might alone but by His divine grace," he said.

President Mahama made the remark at a thanksgiving service organised by Women's Aglow at the Independence Square in Accra Saturday.

Held on the theme: "Ghana will offer to Thee Sacrifice of Thanksgiving", the service was to thank God for guiding Ghana through another peaceful and successful presidential and parliamentary elections.

The service, attended by women from all the 10 regions of the country, was interspersed with prayers, worship, song ministration and praises.

The National Prayer Director of Women's Aglow, Mrs Gifty Afenyi-Dadzie, prayed to God for guidance and protection for President Mahama and continuous peace and development in the country.

President Mahama prayed to God to give him the wisdom of Solomon, the courage of David, as well as a discerning mind, to take good decisions for the benefit of the country.

He asked Ghanaians "to come together with one soul and work hard" to propel the country's socio-economic development.

The President said the prevailing peace in the country was mainly the result of intercessory prayers by the various religious faiths.

"The peace we are enjoying in the country is not by accident. It is the result of intercessory prayers by all people of various faiths," he said.

President Mahama thanked God for continuing to bestow His favour on Ghana and asked all Ghanaians to continue to thank God "and take pride in what He has done for Ghana".

He commended members of Women's Aglow for their constant intercessory prayers for the nation.

On the elections, the President said despite the fact that it was the first time Ghanaians had used the biometric system of voting, coupled with the technical challenges with the verification machines, they went on peacefully.

He said the frustrations could have led to violence but Ghanaians had the patience and tolerance to vote on the first and second days of voting.

He commended the Electoral Commission (EC) for extending the voting to the following day and lauded Ghanaians for their patience and tolerance during the exercise.

President Mahama said it was crucial for Ghanaians to thank God for listening to their prayers and taking them through the elections successfully.

He underscored the need for the people to put the elections behind them and "come together to make the nation what we want it to be".

He expressed the hope that God would continue to bestow His favour on Ghana for the country "to grow from strength to strength".

The President of Women's Aglow, Mrs Dorothy Danso, said God had put asunder all efforts to disturb the peace in the nation.

She said despite the difficult times that Ghanaians went through during the elections, God had seen the country through.

"The Angelic team was sent at the borders of the country to protect the nation," she said.
